In my work, I explore the organic qualities of the natural world through oil paintings and ceramic sculpture. I have always been fascinated by unique forms and textures that I see in the plants, rocks, and earth I experience around me. While in my work I tend to explore forms from inanimate plants and rocks, the quality of my work is very bodily. I specifically search for forms in these inanimate objects to find the bodily quality in these forms and then exaggerate them in my work. I then personify these forms and transform them into a surreal vision with my use of color and distortion of form. By taking these forms away from the natural world they come from and changing them into my body-emphasized and surreal forms, I transform the natural world into an alternate reality. In my work I forge the relationship with the world around us with our interior bodies.
